GET 102.5
Bangkok, Thailand
10 May 2004

DJ: Right now, we got Zac on GET 102.5. Hey! Hi Zac!

ZAC: Hey, how are you?

DJ: I’m fine, and how are you?

ZAC: I’m surely just wonderful.

DJ: And where are you calling from?

ZAC: I’m calling from Louisiana.

DJ: Louisiana…

ZAC: In the United States.

DJ: Wow! Oh, it’s late there pretty much. It’s a night…it’s nighttime?

ZAC: Yeah. It’s, it’s 9:30 at night.

DJ: You sound very relaxed, actually!

ZAC: Oh, uh, I think that’s a good thing, right?

DJ: It is, it is! It is definitely a good thing. It’s morning here.

ZAC: I’m just sitting back at my computer talking on the phone!

DJ: Oohh! Just like having a chat with one of your…your friends. That’s good!

ZAC: Exactly!

DJ: Because you guys…

ZAC: I am having a chat with one of my friends.

DJ: What?

ZAC: I am having a chat with one of my friends.

DJ: Oh, you’ve got lots of friends in here Bangkok, Thailand, by the way.

ZAC: Heh!

DJ: Lots!

ZAC: Well, we can’t wait to see you down there.

DJ: Oh, we can’t wait to see you! Now…you guys have been, uh, working on your album, you new album, Underneath, for the last three years. What else besides working on this new album? What else have you been doing?

ZAC: Well, I mean, we start working on an album, obviously. You know, we wrote a lot of songs. Producing it, mostly ourselves, was a big step. Another thing we did was we did form a record label, which took a lot of time, called 3CG Records

DJ: Uh huh. We will talk about that.

ZAC: That’s the name we kinda come and do the…that, that we formed to release the new album on. And so… just… one of these and things…most in music, just… and focusing on ways to get the fans the most.

DJ: Have you been traveling at all? I mean, have you gone to, you know, places that you’ve always wanted to go or…

ZAC: [pretends to cry] Uh, no. Mostly, mostly just working [sobs] on the new album. And getting, getting that out to the fans, and trying to get them… you know, the, the idea behind the record label is it’s really just a way to get even closer to our fans and start a new more intimate relationship with them. And so, just start working, working on that whole idea.

DJ: Wow! So your record label is called 3CG Records?

ZAC: Yes.

DJ: What does this, the name stand for? What is, what is 3CG?

ZAC: Well, 3CG is… it stands for 3 Car Garage. And yes, that’s also… that was an independent album that we released from before we were signed. And that really just, it, you know, obviously the three sort of represents the, the three of us. But it’s just sort of saying… talking about bringing the music to its core and where we come from as a garage band and just sort of bringing music back to the beginning and where it’s most honest and most genuine.

DJ: Well, congratulations on, you know, forming your 3CG Records.

ZAC: Thank you. Thank you so much!

DJ: No problem! And what is your position…exactly, within the company, besides being its musician? What do you do, Zac?

ZAC: Well, you can, you could sort of think of me as the CEO of sort.

DJ: [laughs] The Big CEO, Zac!

ZAC: Yes, yes. Just call me… just call me The Big Cheese.

DJ: The Big what??

ZAC: The Big Cheese!

DJ: The Big Cheese??

ZAC: Yes.

DJ: The Big Boss! Ah… okay, okay, and your…new album, Underneath, is released under 3CG, correct?

ZAC: Yes it is.

DJ: And Underneath. Tell us about this album.

ZAC: Well, Underneath is, I would say, the most (?) chapter in Hanson. I think it’s---it’s just a step in a new direction. It chose a different side of the band that people may not have seen before. I think it’s the most sick-sounding record that we ever put out. It has… uh, I think it has um… just what I want to… can make this album; we just… just the idea of, of keeping it simpler and bringing it back to the songwriting and making that the focus of the album in a more direct way than we’ve ever done before.

DJ: And how is it different from you last two: Middle of Nowhere and This Time Around? I mean, is it still rock, and mixed with R&B and soul, or is it something different, or…

ZAC: How is it different? It’s, it’s just Hanson. You know, it, it still has its elements; the way we write songs, the way we organize together, just one of those things that will always be the same. But I think it just… it’s bringing us to the next place that we are naturally moving to.

DJ: Okay, okay, and I also heard this! I don’t know how true this is. You gotta clear this up. I heard that you guys have already released the acoustic version to Underneath a while back. Now our question is why…

ZAC: What we did… It’s been four years since our last album, and, This Time Around, which is our second album. And last year we released an acoustic EP called Underneath Acoustic, which was songs from Underneath done acoustically. And we released that only on the Internet and we played acoustic shows across the United States where people could buy it, and those are the only places that people could get it. And that was, that was just, you know, desire to introduce people to the new music in a different kind of way and bring them in to the songs and the album early on before, you know, before the real record is released.

DJ: I got to, I got to say it’s, it’s different. Because, usually, artists would release their full album first, then they would come out with the remixes, the acoustic version of the album. But this is like… But this is like the other way around.

ZAC: Well, we like to do things backwards. Make it more fun.

DJ: Well, you know, it sure is fun. So we can actually catch the acoustic version on your… official website?

ZAC: Yes. If you go to hanson.net, that would be the official Hanson website, you can get, you can get the acoustic album called Underneath Acoustic. Or you can listen to clips to see if you want to buy it.

DJ: At hanson.net. And your album will be released here in Bangkok on the 18th of this month, May. Okay.

ZAC: Exactly! Yes. You’re on it!

DJ: [laughs] Now, uh…

ZAC: I think you do know more than I do!

DJ: [laughs] No, I don’t. You just kind of forgotten it, you know, since you’re so relaxed. I’m just remembering it for you!

ZAC: Thank you. I appreciate that.

DJ: No problem. Zac, just add a curiosity. What’s your… favorite name? I mean, what name makes you go “oooooooo?”

ZAC:Wh-wha-what?!

DJ: What name makes you go “ooooo, wowww?”

ZAC: Yeah, you… that’s… You know, I’ve never been asked that question before!

DJ: Something different, out of the blue.

ZAC: Sh-sh- Shaquila is a great name that makes me go Oooo…

DJ: Really?

ZAC: But I would never name anyone that name.

DJ: Why not?

ZAC: It’s just the, it’s just the name that… I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone named Shaquila. But I’m really looking forward to the day I do! [laughs] That just made me go “ooo.” Actually, my middle name is Shaquila. No, I’m kidding. No way! Oh my! I’m sorry.

DJ: No, I’m kidding, I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Okay. Well, we collected some questions from our GET listeners on GET 102.5. And here is one from Nat, for you…

NAT: Hi, hello Hanson. I’m Nat from Thailand and I’m a huge fan. I just keep wondering when are you coming to Thailand, to Bangkok, to have a live concert?

DJ: So, when are you coming to Bangkok, Thailand for a live concert?

ZAC: That’s a good question. Well, we’ll be coming… very soon. We’re working out dates right now. We really want to come. We’ve never done any shows in Thailand. But we’re looking forward to. We want to come this year, maybe later in the late summer... or we’re just being here right now but we’re definitely be there.

DJ: Oh wow, I hope so. This year, 2004, we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

ZAC: So will we.

DJ: And another question from your fan. Her name is Joy. She wants to know about Taylor, your brother. Did you guys get a niece or a nephew? That was her question.

ZAC: We have… we have a nephew.

DJ: A nephew. Oh wow, congratulations!

ZAC: Yeah, yeah. His name is Ezra. He’s 18 months old.

DJ: 18 months old. What’s his name again?

ZAC: Ezra.

DJ: Ezra. Ezra, That’s a…

ZAC: E-Z-R-A.

DJ: That’s a very different name. I’ve never heard that, actually. It’s not common; it’s not common. Ezra, Ezra.

ZAC: It’s not really common name but it’s a good name. Ezra…

DJ: Does it have a meaning?

ZAC: What?

DJ: Does it have a meaning?

ZAC: A meaning? I believe, the name Ezra means “To rebuild.”

DJ: Ohh, okay. To rebuild something… great. So in the future he’ll be building his own city! Music city!

ZAC: Maybe! Maybe he’ll be an architect!

DJ: Hey, we never know! Ezra, there ya go. Ezra Hanson. Okay, we run outta time, one more question. Any chance… any chance we’ll ever see you in a movie, Zac?

ZAC: No plans for a movie but you never know. Yeah, we’re, we’re musicians first. We hope to maybe do soundtracks some movies or produce other people and things like that. As for acting, maybe a cameo or, or two but not necessarily a full acting role anytime soon.

DJ: Okay. And what’s your favorite type of movie?

ZAC: My favorite type of movie?

DJ: Yeah.

ZAC: Probably action.

DJ: Really? Action thriller… have you… have you seen…

ZAC: Yeah, action thriller probably. You know, I’m a guy and, and I… I enjoy good fights and things like that.

DJ: Do you have any good movies to recommend for us right now?

ZAC: Any good movies? It’s an ‘80s movie called Labyrinth. I watched that just the other day, starring David Bowie. It’s a great movie.

DJ: Labyrinth… okay, I got to go check that out. It’s out; it should be on VDO. Okay, well, Zac, thank you so much for spending sometime with us today. Hopefully, we’ll see you back here very, very soon. Actually, hopefully you’ll have your full-on concert here in Bangkok soon, this summer. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.

ZAC: We hope to.

DJ: Yeah, and before we let you go, any last words for your fans here in Bangkok?

ZAC: I’ll just thank you guys so much for waiting. we can’t wait to see you guys when we, when we come down to Bangkok. And we wanna rock when we play live. And we hope you enjoy the new album. we put a lot of love into it and hopefully you’ll enjoy it.

DJ: Keepin’ rockin’ Zac. Thank you so much!

ZAC: Hey, thank you!

DJ: And that’s Zac from Hanson on GET 102.5 and this is what you got to say…
