VH1's 100 Greatest Kid Stars
13 June 2005RACHEL PERRY, NARRATOR: In 1997 the world was introduced to Hanson and a song that would not die.
NICOLE VECCHIARELLI, teen vogue: "MMMBop" was this thing that you kind of loved to hate, like you sort of thought, "Oh god, it's so annoying," but then you secretly always left it on when it came on.
DANIELLE BRISEBOIS, all in the family: It was just such an infectious, great song.
DUSTIN DIAMOND, saved by the bell: Their song is undeniably huge, they did something right, right?
CANDACE CAMERON, full house: I mean, I played that song over and over, it was just such a catchy tune.
RAIN PRYOR, actress/comedian: Even brothers on the corner were like, "MMMBop!" You know, catching themselves, going, "Did I just say that?!"
RACHEL PERRY: Sure, the song hit #1, the album sold 8 million, and the boys got three Grammy nominations, but the biggest evidence of Hanson's success? Legions of little girls flipping out.
GIRL, old interview: They're so hot, Hanson, and I was here since 7am this morning!
WILLA FORD: The girls like, loved them.
TAYLOR, at grammy's: You know, it's actually getting to the point where we recognize some of them, I think it's cool though.
RACHEL PERRY: Cuteness can be cruel, though. As Hanson grew from boys to men their popularity waned.
NICOLE VECCHIARELLI, teen vogue: They definitely didn't have the same amount of success that they had, you know, in the "MMMBop" days.
RACHEL PERRY: But the brothers keep plugging. In 2004 they released the album Underneath on their own label. These days they live in New York where Taylor and his wife hang with their son and daughter.
TAYLOR & EZRA, from vh1's all access: Okay, finish your song dude and then we're going to have to go to dinner!
RACHEL PERRY: They may never score another "MMMBop" sized hit, but they're still playing and they're just happy to be Hanson.
ISAAC, from vh1's all access interview: I'm just glad that we've been doing it as long as we have and I'm glad that we're getting the opportunity to continue to do it.
