RADIO TRANSCRIPTS

Kyle & Jackie O Show
Australia
18 November 2004

KYLE: Now it is time to bring them in, ladies and gentlemen welcome back to the Kyle & Jackie O studios Hanson! Wow!

ISAAC: We're back and we're uglier than ever! Oh wait-

KYLE: Look how big you guys are! I feel like a weird-

ZAC: We're so huge! We weigh like 500 pounds now.

ISAAC: I'm bloated. I just ate shellfish.

KYLE: I really do feel, I feel like you know when you go back to a school reunion and everyone's sort of fat and ugly or really hot, and you're the sort of weird one and you think, "oh my God I forgot what everyone looks like…"

ISAAC: I was the fat and ugly one.

KYLE: No, you weren't!

ISAAC: It's true.

TAYLOR: You were the fat and ugly one, or now you are? (to Kyle)

KYLE: Now I am…

ISAAC: No I was, I am.

KYLE: Gentleman, welcome back, welcome back to the country. I was just talking to Jackie the other day about when Hanson first came to Australia, it was so big.

JACKIE O: It was massive.

KYLE: I was working in Perth and I flew over here with a whole plane full of listeners, and they were all like 12, 13 year old girls, screaming their little unformed tits off down in Sydney-

ISAAC: No, actually they were… ohh never mind. (laughing) I'm not gonna say anything!

KYLE: And they were just screaming, just crying. I'd never seen anything like it before in my life, cos I missed The Beatles and all that stuff.

TAYLOR: Well take a look, one look at us you'd want to scream.

JACKIE O: In a good way. Do you find the fans are still as chaotic?

TAYLOR: You know what, they're even better in the sense that, like, it's so hard to just be able to go forward and continue to make music, put out records and have a great relationship with your fans, and that was seven years ago. And it's been four years in between the last time we were here, and still, to be able to, you know, come in here and do a show, have a ton of excited fans, and have a, have kind of, moved forward with you. That's almost more gratifying than the idea of all of a sudden having you know, reached all these people around the world.

JACKIE O: For sure.

KYLE: Now Zac, you were like you know…

ZAC: 11.

KYLE: 6 months old or something

ZAC: Yeah, 6 months old. I was 11 when people first saw Hanson, I was about 6 when we first started so we've been doing this a long time.

TAYLOR: Well when we very, very, very first started we singing a cappella and Zac was-

ZAC: I mean, it's crazy. Last night the engineer came to us and told us that the sound decibel reading it was like 118, which - well a jet engine is about 140, so that's pretty freaking loud.

JACKIE O: Yeah…

TAYLOR: That's wh- you're asking about the fans, I mean. The fans were… usually fans were usually bands you connect with people that are your peers. Cos you grow up, my parents are still into 3 Dog Night and stuff from the 60s.

KYLE: Well why don't you do something like 3 Dog Night kids.

ISAAC: Well actually, you know, I do actually like some of it.

TAYLOR: But it's cool to see, you know, you're staying relevant to people in a different way, who are now in college and doing different things. I mean, and of course...

KYLE: You can have sex with them now and everything.

TAYLOR: (laughs) Exactly.

JACKIE O: Well Zac, you would be able to experience that.

ZAC: That's exactly what I was thinking!

TAYLOR: Cos now their boobs are actually formed!

KYLE: That's right!

JACKIE O: And you guys seem to, I don't know through this whole journey, be really close. It doesn't look like you even fight. You're always happy!

ISAAC: Uhh, well, you see-

ZAC: We fight our fair share like anyone does, but we all, I mean anybody knows that...

ISAAC: I know, I know. I gotta comment on that. Cos it is really, really funny, cos people always say that, and do you get a lot of bands coming in here and actually bickering in front of each other?

TAYLOR: That just fight in front of each other? Or is it just a brother thing that people see brothers fight?

JACKIE O: I don't know, I think its just not as - some of them will be grumpy, not happy to... not a lot of them are happy about having to do all the stuff that they have to do.

ISAAC: Well we're not happy about it either!

JACKIE O: Oh right, it's just a front!

ISAAC: Well we're not good actors.

TAYLOR: We're just really good at faking it.

KYLE: I think the only people that have ever had a fight in here was - this is where Evanescence split up.

JACKIE O: Well it was close around that time and they weren't happy.

KYLE: Right here. Right in those chairs that you are sitting in.

JACKIE O: They didn't split up right in front of us.

ISAAC: ZAC I HATE YOU! You're a friggin' idiot! You know what, if you say that one more time, I'm gonna just come over there and…

JACKIE O: Now that would be cool.

KYLE: I would love to see you fight actually, it'd be good.

ISAAC: Actually it's not good, because it's very short and Zac always wins.

ZAC: Look, I professionally hit things. What do you expect?

ISAAC: Exactly.

TAYLOR: He's a drummer.

ISAAC: Including the guitar player.

KYLE: Now so let's just refresh everyone's memory. Zac was the one who was very small, and everyone was like "Oh my God, he's the cutest little drummer!"

JACKIE O: "He's so cute!"

KYLE: - can't believe it… and uh, then what?

JACKIE O: Taylor. Taylor was the middle one. Now Taylor, you've gone off and got married and a baby.

KYLE: What a heartbreaker.

JACKIE O: I know!

TAYLOR: Got married and a baby, yes.

JACKIE O: How did you meet your wife?

TAYLOR: Well, I mean much like meeting a lot of friends and musicians and stuff. I met her while we were traveling. While we were on the road. She lives in Atlanta, we were going through Atlanta, and we were doing an event, a big promotion with another thing and she and her friend were a part of this modeling thing that we were doing.

JACKIE O: Right.

TAYLOR: She's not a model. Zac's girlfriend actually is, used to be a model. But she was just there and we really hit it off. That was a few years ago.

JACKIE O: And when you found out she was pregnant, and you know, when it came time for the birth of the baby, were all you guys in the hospital, what was all that like?

ZAC: I was actually the doctor.

TAYLOR: It was pretty scary.

ISAAC: That's awkward.

TAYLOR: Yeah, uhh… Zac?

ISAAC: Awkward…

TAYLOR: Okay now the fight starts!

ISAAC: Wow… hang on, hang on… that's awkward!

TAYLOR: Yeah.

TAYLOR: Well actually, it was pretty wild cos we were just finishing mixing this record, and um, which tells you how long this has taken but… and we basically had just gotten back from New York the night before… and then it was like "Okay! Baby's coming." You know, she was about to pop-

ISAAC: I like to joke that you know, his son waited around for Uncle Ike to show up. Cos I was actually, I was actually late. I came in a few days later so…

TAYLOR: And then, and then…

ISAAC: And then yeah, the Ez-Man showed up.

TAYLOR: Yeah.

ISAAC: He and I are pretty close.

JACKIE O: And you saw it all, Taylor? You were like right in there, kind of helping her out?

TAYLOR: Oh yeah, yeah, I was in there the whole way.

KYLE: I don't think he was IN there.

JACKIE O: No, not right in there!

KYLE: The baby was IN there.

KYLE: But he was as close as possible.

ISAAC: Let's just not get into that technically.

TAYLOR: We could move on, but - a lot of guys, just like just can't do it… just can't do it, they're like "oh I can't go in there, I can't do that."

JACKIE O: But you did it.

TAYLOR: Like "you, you wuss!"

KYLE: Gutless wonders those guys.

TAYLOR: You have to let your wife do it. The women are tougher anyway!

KYLE: Hanson are sticking here for the hour. If you want to ring up and ask them anything, anything at all - 13 10 60. We don't have a ruler in here so you can't actually ask them to measure their penises.

ZAC: We don't have a ruler long enough…

KYLE: Oh don't worry, we've got the meter ruler! Hanson, back soon here at the Kyle & Jackie O show.

COMMERCIAL

KYLE: Hanson here at the Kyle & Jackie O Show. Nice, nice, nice. The boys have got their brand new CD, that was track #6 called "Lost Without Each Other," which is nice. Is that about yourselves? You're lost without each other? Lost without your boys?

TAYLOR: Do you guys remember the New Radicals?

KYLE: Yes!

TAYLOR: We wrote that with Gregg Alexander from The New Radicals.

KYLE: Whatever happened to them?

TAYLOR: It's really only one--it's really only a guy and it's wild cos he's really super, super talented and that's why we worked with him, we really liked that record. But I guess, what was that, a few years ago? Like four, five years ago?

ZAC: He decided to quit the music industry. He said, "I don't want to be in the spotlight. I'm going to quit."

ISAAC: Well it's because he said what was true, it was too much about politics and not about music and he felt like he couldn't say what he wanted to say and be a musician the way he wanted to be and…

TAYLOR: It is actually a true story, but that's actually the new single off the record.

KYLE: Oh excellent, we like it! All right Hanson, you can start voting for it on the Hot 30 Countdown, it's coming up at 7. 1-800-185-4100. It would be nice to hear Hanson back on the countdown, it'll remind us of our old age.

JACKIE O: I know! When we used to do the Hot 30. All right, we're taking calls. 13 10 60. Lots of people wanting to ask you questions.

KYLE: Mel, hello?

MEL: Hi Kyle! Hi Jackie, how are you?

KYLE: Hanson are here, did you want to talk to them?

JACKIE O: Say "hi" to Hanson!

MEL: Hi guys! How are you?

TAYLOR: There's two voices!

KYLE: Some girls in this country have two heads.

MEL: We're twins so we're both here.

TAYLOR: What was your question?

MEL: We just wanted to know have you ever been star struck by any, like people you're fans of, say musicians or actors or anyone like that?

TAYLOR: Sure, I mean, Paul McCartney?

MEL: Oh, awesome.

TAYLOR: Definitely. We always say we're fans first so I mean, we really appreciate when fans of ours say, "hey, we waited outside, we slept outside just to get tickets to the show!" And those kind of crazy things, and so when you meet somebody that you really admire like Paul McCartney or Bono or people like that, you definitely stand there and go, "wow, you're cool."

ZAC: "Can I touch your hair?!"

ISAAC: One of the coolest ones was definitely meeting the guys from U2. We met Edge after a show, we also were going to a party, a Grammy party, and from behind us I heard, "hey Hanson!" And we're like, "what the heck? Who is that?" We turn around and it's Bono flagging us down.

MEL: That's so cool!

ISAAC: I was pretty stoked.

TAYLOR: It's all about being a fan of the music.

MEL: Yeah, definitely. We're actually in the car right now driving to Sydney from Melbourne; we were at the show last night.

TAYLOR: Oh wow. You're coming to see the show? Wow.

MEL: Yeah, we're driving. I think we're about an hour away.

TAYLOR: That's awesome. Well, we'll see you at the show tomorrow.

ZAC: See you in an hour.

KYLE: Keep an eye out for two hot twins in a little car! Hey Tina, talk to Hanson.

TINA: Hi Hanson!

TINA: I absolutely love you guys and I have been an extremely huge fan for the past eight years and I'm just so glad you're back in the country.

TAYLOR: That's so cool.

ISAAC: We're glad to be here.

KYLE: Tina, do you have the old posters up on the walls or have you managed to get some new ones?

TINA: No, I've managed to get the new ones I've been getting my hands on overseas magazines and things like that.

JACKIE O: Big fan!

TAYLOR: That's awesome. Did you want to ask a question?

TINA: Yeah, I just wanted to ask, Delta Goodrem is a girl over in Australia who has had phenomenal success rather like you guys and I was just wondering had you guys heard of heard of her, have you heard any of her songs and what do you think of it, as with other Australian artists? What do you think of us?

TAYLOR: Well, there's tons of great Aussie music. We were talking earlier about Motor Race and Jet…

ZAC: How about AC/DC?

TAYLOR: Yeah, of course. The classics, there's a lot of great music that's come out of Australia. I don't know Delta Goodrem that much; I've heard of her but don't know her stuff extensively.

KYLE: She is the one that was going out with Mark Philippoussis, the tennis player, and then he rooted Paris Hilton behind her back and Australia couldn't believe it!

TAYLOR: Oh god!

ZAC: That is so scandalous! I'd just like to take a tennis racket and just do something bad

KYLE: Have you guys had sex with or seen anyone have sex with Paris Hilton?

ZAC: On the record is a secret track; it's the audio file.

KYLE: Christine is on the phone, hi Christine! Talk to Hanson!

CHRISTINE: Hi guys, how are you doing?

ZAC: Doing good, how are you?

CHRISTINE: I'm very well, thank you!

TAYLOR: Did you have a question?

CHRISTINE: I was just wondering what's the most romantic thing you've ever done for a girl was?

TAYLOR: Oh man, now we're on the spot…

JACKIE O: Well Taylor, how did you propose to your wife?

TAYLOR: How did I propose to my wife… well, it was very romantic but it was romantic only because just because it was a personal moment, obviously, it was very intense…

KYLE: Tell us what happened in the personal moment!

TAYLOR: Well I mean, there was just a lot of anticipation, she kind of knew I was going to ask her…

CHRISTINE: Were you nervous?

TAYLOR: Oh yeah, I was definitely nervous, but it was also very liberating cos you're about to do the one thing that hopefully you only do once, and…

ZAC: You want to do it right.

TAYLOR: So yeah, she'd gone back and forth visiting while we were making our record and I just snuck off in the room with her, just alone, and got down on one knee and said, you know, "would you marry somebody as crazy as me? Do you know what you're getting into?" And she said, "I want to get into this," so…

ZAC: "I want to get into this, baby!"

KYLE: One makes it sound romantic, the other one makes it sound like it's all about getting jiggy with it. Lauren's on the phone, Lauren, here's Hanson!

LAUREN: Hey guys, how are ya?

ISAAC: Great, and yourself?

LAUREN: I just want to say congratulations on last night, we were at the Melbourne gig and it was awesome.

ALL: Thank you!

LAUREN: You guys were excellent. My question is, obviously you guys have been a lot of people's first celebrity crush and yada, yada, yada. So who did you guys sort of get into before obviously Taylor you were married?

ZAC: Who did we get into? (laughs)

TAYLOR: Who did we get into?

ISAAC: Whoa Zac, whoa.

TAYLOR: Celebrity crushes? Well Zac is Paris Hilton, which I don't get, women that have the body like a 12 year old boy. That's getting a little less hetero.

ISAAC: Well not to mention, I'd be really afraid at what I…

ZAC: Any man in their right mind thought Cindy Crawford was hot.

TAYLOR: That's so funny cos I was about to say Cindy Crawford because she was sort of the ultimate, especially when I was younger, just like, "oh my god!"

ISAAC: Yeah, like, the Pepsi commercial came on and you were like…

TAYLOR: I love Pepsi!

KYLE: What about people like Sarah Michelle Gellar? What do you guys think of her?

ZAC: No.

TAYLOR: Well, we've met her a bunch of times, she's really attractive but not in that way. Not like, "oh my god."

ISAAC: I actually always had a crush on Jennifer Love Hewitt.

JACKIE O: So did Kyle.

KYLE: Me too! I told her!

ISAAC: Oh you did?

KYLE: And then she sort of went weird on me. I don't know what happened.

TAYLOR: Oh, you were sticking your tongue in her ear… did you take your shirt off or your pants off? You weren't wearing any clothing…

KYLE: I did take my shirt off, but there is something about Jennifer Love Hewitt, just a little something, and great boobs.

ISAAC: Really, really charming, that's the thing I noticed about her the most.

KYLE: Oh, and charming, yeah. (laughs) More calls coming up with Hanson soon here at the Kyle & Jackie O Show. The number if you want to get through, start dialing now. 13 10 60.

*

KYLE: We are sitting here chatting with Hanson on the Kyle & Jackie O Show and now we're letting you do it.

JACKIE O: Yes we are, we are taking your calls on 13 10 60. Here we go, we've got another caller.

KYLE: Natalie, hello?

NATALIE: Hello?

KYLE: Hi! Hanson is here, what would you like to ask them?

NATALIE: Oh hi, awesome guys show last night, I have to say, awesome show.

TAYLOR: Thanks so much.

ISAAC: Thank you.

NATALIE: My question was, what's the coolest thing you guys have done in Australia, from the the three trips, not just this one?

TAYLOR: What's the coolest thing? Well, actually one of the coolest things was the first time we came we got on the little jet and flew around the bay and really saw the city from above, that was actually really amazing.

ISAAC: Yeah, we flew over some of the beaches.

TAYLOR: That sounds a little lame but it's such a beautiful city.

JACKIE O: Nice weather…

ZAC: And then we got totally wasted!!

ISAAC: Exactly!

ZAC: Swam with sharks!!

TAYLOR: Zac actually dove out of the plane and into the bay.

ISAAC: Zac was 12, he had a bottle of Jack in his hands and…

TAYLOR: He was raised by wolves.

KYLE: What we don't realize is living in a country like this-and a lot of times people who have never traveled outside of Australia, and that's most of us cos we're lazy, we don't like going anywhere--it is a very clean, beautiful city and not a lot of places in the world look anything like anywhere in Australia, do they?

TAYLOR: There's a lot of really unique beauty to Australia, for sure. Sydney especially is a really pretty city. You think about how there's a lot going on here but it's still really clean and all. We were just in Melbourne and Melbourne was the same way. So we're moving here! No… but yeah, I think always the greatest thing is just to be able to play shows and last night was our first official real SHOW show, playing like an hour and a half of music and that was really fantastic.

NATALIE: It was really, really good.

ZAC: Thank you.

JACKIE O: Apart from enjoying the show, what did you do Isaac, cos your birthday was yesterday! So happy birthday to you yesterday.

ISAAC: Yes, thank you very much. It was good fun. You know, I got a lot of liquor from fans for my birthday!

ZAC: People were trying to send a statement…

ISAAC: Exactly, I think the note was like, "hey, here's this liquor! Want to come and hang out with me later?" Ahh… but that was actually kind of funny.

TAYLOR: Just stay away from Shaggy.

ISAAC: Exactly.

KYLE: Well happy birthday to you mate. Louise is on the phone, hi Louise. Here's Hanson for you.

LOUISE: Hi, hi Kyle, hi Jackie. I'd like to say happy birthday to you yesterday Isaac. I was just wondering, what do you do to warm up for a gig? Do you have a glass of Coke or something or milk?

TAYLOR: Glass of Coke or milk, that's really interesting. We snort some coke… no!

ISAAC: No we don't cos that's really bad for your voice; you gotta do that after the show.

TAYLOR: To warm up you just do exercises to kind of stretch your voice a little bit…

ZAC: Most people don't realize that your vocal chords are as much a muscle as your arm or your legs and you need to stretch them.

KYLE: How do you stretch them? Do you put your finger down your throat?

ZAC: You make noises (everyone makes noises)

KYLE: You're lucky we're all sitting at the front of these concerts, not walking around the back.

ISAAC: We spend about 45 minutes doing that sort of stuff.

ZAC: Completely doing that, out of rhythm…

ISAAC: Completely drive people nuts.

ZAC: You just try and warm your voice up and stretched.

ISAAC: Actually, we have a funny story about warming up, which was that there was a Russian driver in New York who was driving us around and the three of us were warming up in the back. He thought we were making noises to just drive him nuts and he turns around and goes, "YOU NEED TO STOP DOING THAT NOW! STOP NOW! STOP NOW!"

ZAC: He stopped the car four times and started to get out.

ISAAC: We're like, "no, we gotta warm up for the performance."

KYLE: You were like, "we're a band and this is what we have to do."

TAYLOR: He was taking us to like, Good Morning America and we're like, "no, we're warming up, we're singing for a show."

ISAAC: "You all stop now! What are you doing? This is not singing!"

KYLE: Hi Peter, Hanson's here, what would you like to ask them?

PETER: Oh hi guys, I'm just wondering, you guys have traveled the world many a time and seen lots of beautiful women, how do you rate us Australian women?

ISAAC: Dude, that's a loaded question!

TAYLOR: Very loaded question.

KYLE: Oh, about a 10.

ISAAC: Well, considering that the most beautiful woman in radio is Jackie O, I definitely think….

KYLE: Well that's not a stretch; we know that all the others are fat and ugly.

JACKIE O: Oh, Kyle…

ZAC: The irony behind that is he said the most beautiful woman in radio, which has nothing to do with the way you look.

TAYLOR: It is true, that is true.

ISAAC: Zac, are you taking my compliment and turning it around on me?

ZAC: The Australian women are beautiful. They're an 11 on a scale of 1-10.

KYLE: Have you gone to another country and said, "yes, you Japanese women are the lowest rated women in the world?"

ISAAC: Dude, if you walk around in Denmark, it's painful how many attractive women there are there. You walk around and you're like, "I'm living in the wrong country! What is the deal here?!" And Australia is very close to that.

ZAC: The thing is, you just don't answer that question…

TAYLOR: It's like when your girlfriend or wife looks and says to you, "do these pants make me look fat?" You say "no!" I mean, that's just a very hard… you can't be a jerk about that.

ISAAC: That makes it sound like we think Australia is…

JACKIE O: I know, it does!

TAYLOR: Oh, sorry.

ISAAC: No actually, there are a lot of attractive Australian women, I will say that, honestly.

KYLE: We've got our fair share of the dumplings as well, let's not be lying…

TAYLOR: Well everybody does!

KYLE: Last call is Natalie, she's 19.

NATALIE: Hi Hanson! I love you so much! How are you?!

ISAAC: We're very good!

NATALIE: Zac, I love you! Anyway guys, I went to your concert last night and it was fantastic! Well done!

TAYLOR: Thanks so much.

NATALIE: And what I did was, I brought a double D bra and I wrote my name and phone number on the back of it and I threw it on stage and I wanted to know if you got it cos I haven't heard from you!

TAYLOR: Well, we don't usually call people back that send us their bras, but we'll look for it now.

NATALIE: Well, it wasn't really my size but I thought if I brought a double D bra you'd ring me!

ISAAC: What are you actually then?

NATALIE: So you didn't get it?

JACKIE O: What is your actual bra size?

NATALIE: I'm a B, sorry.

TAYLOR: That's a good size… a double D might have given us the wrong idea.

ZAC: We'd be looking for a really BIG girl.

KYLE: How old are you, you're 19?

NATALIE: Yes, I'm 19.

KYLE: Now if they'd have rung you up and said, "hey, we got this bra here, do you want to come around to the hotel room, there's all three of us?"

ISAAC: Well first of all, it'd never be all three of us cos that would be really, really too easy.

NATALIE: You don't understand, I was, oh… ugh.

KYLE: Go on Natalie, what don't I understand?

NATALIE: Kyle, I have been in love with these boys since I was 12. Zac, will you marry me? Will you?

ZAC: Well you know, usually we should meet first.

KYLE: That's like buying a car on the internet, you got to take it for a test drive.

ISAAC: Hey honey, you don't start off a relationship with Zac by lying to him about the wrong bra size, I mean, you've already lied to him, he cannot trust you anymore!

ZAC: The trust between us is already lost.

NATALIE: Aw no Zac, but I love you and I think you guys are great, okay? And are you going to come back to Australia so I can meet you?

ISAAC: Yes, we are going to come back to Australia.

TAYLOR: Yes, tell us the proper bra size.

NATALIE: All right, well next time I'll throw a B size bra on stage.

ISAAC: Done deal.

JACKIE O: You guys are actually going to come back for a proper full-scaled tour that is, maybe when? Next month?

TAYLOR: We're trying to plan to come back March or April and play shows electrically cos like I said, these are acoustic. It's a real show in the sense that we'll play for like an hour and a half, two hours, but really plugging in and being a little more of a rock show.

KYLE: Well, we think you guys are great Isaac, Taylor, and Zac. We knew them, it's like brothers. It's like meeting up with your old next-door neighbors. That's what it's like. Nice to see you. We're going to put anywhere you can possibly see Hanson up on our website so you can jump on there and get your fix of Hanson, kyleandjackieo.com. Boys, come back and see us, even if you just come back for a holiday, we'll put you on to Natalie or whatever.

ISAAC: Well sure, hey. We'll come back for a holiday, you know, I really want to check out the Great Barrier Reefs sometime really soon so I'm sure I'll be coming back.

TAYLOR: We can do satellite from the reef.

ISAAC: It'll be like - (imitates talking underwater)

KYLE: See ya Hanson, nice to talk to you!
