12 May 2000STEVE: ...from Tulsa, Oklahoma this morning. The guys are set up in their home studio. Hi guys, can you hear us?
ISAAC: Yes we can.
VICKI: How's it going?
ISAAC: It's going very good.
VICKI: Gosh, it's been a couple of years since you've been here in Atlanta. You remember our listener appreciation party?
ALL: Yes, yes.
VICKI: Well, the new song sounds great.
ISAAC: Well thank you very much.
TAYLOR: Yes, thank you.
STEVE: Zac, are you still wild? I remember I was calling you ProZac when you were around.
TAYLOR: Don't go there...
STEVE: Come on, Zac...
TAYLOR: He's calmed down... no... [laughs]
STEVE: Has he calmed?
TAYLOR: No, don't start it man.
ZAC: It's just we've been up early enough that I'm slightly... *makes snoring sound*
TAYLOR: It's like, "oh we didn't get enough sleep last night. Uh Zac... hello?"
STEVE: See, I can tell your voice has changed Zac [laughs]
ZAC: Yeah, my voice has definitely changed. I'm quite a bit lower.
STEVE: Yeah, you sound like Taylor did when you guys were here a couple years ago.
TAYLOR: Well the thing is, now, kind of everybody has - you pick up the phone and go, "who is this? Ike, Tay, Zac?" you know? It's all confusing. This is Taylor.
VICKI: And Isaac, you cut your hair.
ISAAC: Yeah, I kind of chopped mine off. We'd had long hair, you know, for quite a long time and after three and a half years I decided, hey - what the heck.
TAYLOR: Go all the way.
ISAAC: I might as well do something different.
TAYLOR: Isaac and I both cut our hair. Isaac cut his the most.
VICKI: Well you have got to be excited about the new CD. You've proven to everybody, even your harshest critics, that you're just not a one shot group.
TAYLOR: Yeah, we're just really psyched about the new album coming out. This Time Around, the record, just came out on Monday, so that's very cool. And so yeah, we're just very psyched to have the music out there and it's very, very exciting.
STEVE: And you didn't break up, I guess being brothers, that might be tough to do in the house, right?
ISAAC: Yeah, it is kind of -- we decided you know, would be a little bit hard at this point. I mean, we're like, "alright man! I'm quitting the band! You guys are just un- uh, I can't work with you anymore!" and then you go --
STEVE: I'm going to the den!!
TAYLOR: Yeah, exactly.
ISAAC: So what are we going to do now that we're broken up?
ZAC: I'm gonna be... in the room next door.
TAYLOR: That's the thing about being brothers and being a band. It's hard to break up cos no matter what, twenty years down the line it's like, family reunions: "hey dude... how's it going?" You know, it's... so I guess that's like a back up plan.
STEVE: Right, right.
TAYLOR: The fact that it's hard to break up. But no, we have not, obviously...
VICKI: Okay, so lets catch up. Isaac - how old?
ISAAC: I'm 19 now.
VICKI: Taylor?
TAYLOR: I'm 17.
VICKI: Zac?
ZAC: 14.
STEVE: So soon Zac, I don't know - in your home state, when can you drive?
ZAC: I... probably it's 16.
TAYLOR: 15 1/2 permit, get the permit. Not to long from now, it's getting close.
STEVE: So Isaac, did you have to pass down the family car to Taylor?
ISAAC: Ah no, no, didn't have to pass down the family car. We all share the cars, you know?
TAYLOR: I haven't been home yet, I don't have a car yet. I guess I'm still searching for that dream car. I'm going for-Isaac's got the Pinto action going, so I figure I'd just go with kind of like a British Meanie or something. You know, kind of studly.
STEVE: I can't believe you guys even remember what a Pinto is.
TAYLOR: That's all about it, man.
STEVE: You've seen pictures.
TAYLOR: Yes.
STEVE: And what do ya'll think about the current rage of the boys bands, with the Backstreet Boys and NSync?
TAYLOR: Well, I think they're doing their thing and they're working hard and it's very cool.
ZAC: Yeah, I mean, like pop music right now is really thriving and there's a lot of that going on right now.
TAYLOR: It's doing it's thing.
STEVE: And you know what guys? I told your dad, Mr Hanson, this when you were here for our listener's appreciation party. You guys were really kind of a catalyst that helped that a couple years ago.
TAYLOR: Well I think that obviously, look how things have changed in the last two years from, you know, when the first record came out.
STEVE: Right.
TAYLOR: So it's -- I think it's hard to take credit for a whole wave of you know, these different bands coming up. But I think definitely, I mean, it's obviously that things have changed and it's --
ISAAC: Yeah, I'm not sure whether it's because of us or not, but I just -- but I think it's really interesting that over the last three years you've seen such a dramatic change in popular music.
STEVE: Well, Vicki and I can tell you, from doing mornings here in Atlanta for ten years now and since 1981 I've been doing mornings, so all we can tell you is that you guys made calling into the radio station fun again for a lot of young people, and kind of just put a little kick in the pants of pop music, and I think you should be very proud of that.
TAYLOR: Well it's very cool to have new music coming out, like we said, and it's been really cool just to see the fans again and have them coming out, and yeah, it's been very cool.
VICKI: Now are you gonna tour again?
ISAAC: We will definitely be touring.
TAYLOR: Starting in July we'll actually be starting playing concerts all over the country and just promoting the new record.
VICKI: And nobody told us if you'd be able to do a song or not for us this morning. Any chance of that?
ISAAC: Ahh, unfortunately we don't have a guitar with us but we could definitely jump into something.
TAYLOR: We'll sing something for ya.
ISAAC: This is actually a song off the new record, a song called "Wish That I Was There." Wanna go for that?
STEVE: Okay, great.
* sing chorus of "Wish That I Was There" a cappella *
STEVE: Alright guys, sounded good!
VICKI: Great!
ISAAC: Thanks.
STEVE: Well guys, listen. We look forward to you coming to Atlanta again. You're just a very nice family, and I enjoyed when I was talking to your dad; it just seems like you guys have fun on stage and you're so well grounded. You weren't rushing with the ego trips, and that's nice to see and it's always one of those staples that'll keep you guys going, I think.
ISAAC: Well thanks very much.
TAYLOR: Thanks very much.
VICKI: Stop by and see us!
TAYLOR Okay!
ZAC: Thanks a lot.
STEVE: Alright Hanson, live studio hook up in Oklahoma. And their newest song, "This Time Around."
* plays "This Time Around" *
