Hanson's passion for raising awareness of the AIDS epidemic in Africa that began with the sale of their song "Great Divide" in late 2006 continued as they began to tour in support of their fourth full-length album, The Walk, a year later. Hanson teamed up with Toms Shoes and led 1-mile walks around the venue site in each city to promote awareness of HIV and AIDS in Africa. They encouraged fans to walk barefoot and then purchase a pair of Toms Shoes afterwards; with each pair purchased, one pair was donated to a child in Africa in November 2007.
